Our Story, so far...

   Kenora Bed ’n’ Bale is a new, small, urban farm resort, situated at the previous Houghton Beach Camps, which was a thriving campground from the 1920s to the 1960s (photos below). We purchased the vacant property in 2007,  and worked to improve and build trails, fence the perimeter, and move the horses and livestock in. The more time we spent out here, the more we enjoyed it, so we sold our big lake home and built a smaller retirement home in 2018.  In 2019 we started working towards re-opening the old campground, but with a country twist.

   While experienced outdoors enthusiasts find our place offers an easy getaway, many of our urban visitors have never used an outhouse, touched a horse, lit a campfire or picked a berry. We offer the opportunity for ‘gentle entry’ glamping (glamorous camping), where guests have a new, safe, comfortable, themed tiny cabin or a camper to sleep in, after exploring the best of woods, water, farm and nearby city attractions! Families tend to return, stay longer, and some even book a seasonal spot!

  Each site has its own picnic table and a little outdoor area (mostly gravelled), plus guests have the use of several acres of shared space and amenities around the campground and farm. Miles of public trails leading to several natural beaches, and the opportunity to catch a fish, will top off your experience. All this, only a mile from downtown! You can order top-notch restaurant food, delivered right to your cabin.
